World Superbikes release 2025 calendar
The provisional calendar for the 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has been released. Comprised almost entirely of familiar circuits, the 2025 season will (or at least, should) see the production-based championship race at Balaton Park for the very first time. The new Hungarian circuit had been scheduled to make its WorldSBK debut in August, but the round was transferred to Estoril in Portugal and rescheduled to October.
The 2025 WorldSBK Championship consists of 12 rounds, bookended by Phillip Island in February and Jerez in October. Once again, the Australian round will be the only one held outside of Europe and the UK, further diminishing the “world” relevance of World Superbikes. As recently as 2019, WorldSBK was racing at Laguna Seca (USA), Buriram (Thailand), Lusail (Qatar) and San Juan de Villicum (Argentina), but only San Juan de Villicum has appeared on the calendar since. Mandalika in Indonesia was added in 2021, but dropped for 2024 and remains off the 2025 calendar, too.
Phillip Island, in addition to its position as the season opener, will host WorldSBK’s final pre-season test, which is in the same week as the opening round.
Within the 12-round 2025 WorldSBK calendar, some returning venues have been shuffled compared to this year - Portimao has been moved from August to March and Cremona from September to May. The Czech round at Most will run earlier next year, too. Catalunya has been dropped from the calendar entirely, replaced by Estoril, which was drafted in when the Hungarian round at Balaton Park was cancelled.
Originally scheduled for Round 8 this year, Balaton Park will occupy the same slot on the 2025 WorldSBK calendar. And while it is on the calendar, the circuit remains subject to homologation for WorldSBK, as it does for MotoGP in 2025.
Opened in May, 2023, Balaton Park is located south-west of Budapest, with the circuit’s 4.115km length offering 6 right- and 11 left-hand corners. The FIA and FIM homologated circuit will bring WorldSBK back to Hungary for the first time since 1990, when racing was held at the Hungaroring.
All twelve rounds on the 2025 WorldSBK calendar will feature World Superbikes and World Supersport, with selected European rounds to include World Supersport 300 (WorldSSP300) and the Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) that made its debut this year.
WorldSSP300 will be held over eight rounds next year, after which it will be replaced by a new class, but details of this have yet to be revealed. WorldWCR will race over six rounds in 2025 - the same as this year – with three of those rounds on circuits that will be new for the all-female championship.
