Vespa release 946 ‘Dragon’ limited-edition
In the Chinese lunar calendar, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. To celebrate this, Vespa has released a special edition of their 946 scooter - the 946 Dragon. Only 1,888 units will be produced, with Australia’s allocation of that total strictly limited.
This is the second Vespa limited-edition to be inspired by the Chinese lunar calendar, following 2023’s ‘946 Bunny’ for the Year of the Rabbit. Like that model, the 946 Dragon is a cosmetic package, finished in champagne gold metallic paint, which extends to the handlebars, headlight shell, mirrors and wheels. The seat gets a pale gold finish, too.
Contrasting this, a bold dragon graphic in bright Emerald Green starts on the nearside legshield and extends to the scooter’s rear. On the offside, large block numbers on the engine cover reference the dragon’s years in the lunar calendar.
Although the 946 Dragon is offered in 125 and 150 form, only the 150 version will be released in Australia. Both engines are single-cylinder four-strokes, with air cooling and electric start.
Twist-and-go CVT transmission, belt drive, single shocks front and rear (with 5-step preload adjustability on the rear), 220mm disc brakes with dual channel ABS and 12-inch alloy wheels are standard. Electronic traction control, LED lighting all round and an LCD instrument display are other features. Seat height is 805mm and weight is 157kg.
Available accessories include a rear rack and storage bag, plus an open-face helmet and American-style varsity jacket with the same colours and graphics as the scooter.
Pricing for the Vespa 946 Dragon is $22,680 ride away and Australian units started arriving in February. See your Vespa dealer for availability and further details.
