Vespa announces Christian Dior edition 946
The tie-in seems tenuous but comes from the fact both brands were launched in 1946 and have become icons of style in their respective fields. Vespa elaborates to say the two brands are linked by “an unwavering desire to inspire a new, bright and creative vision of the world”.

The special edition scooter was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections, and is finished in white with gold trim, which extends to the wheels and mirrors. Striping on the lower body carries identifying Christian Dior branding on the engine cover, while the Dior oblique logo features on the underside of the saddle. A subtler touch is the redesign of the bag hook to incorporate the Parisian couturier’s ‘CD’ logo.
To complement the new 946 variant, a special top box has been created, in the style of a travel case and adorned with Dior oblique branding. A similarly-finished open-face helmet will also be offered.

Underneath the white and gold finish - and all that Dior branding - the special edition is a standard Vespa 946, meaning a 155cc single-cylinder engine and CVT, with other features including disc brakes with ABS, an LED headlight, traction control, digital instrument display and an 8.3-litre fuel tank.
Announced on 12 June, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior follows other style-themed versions of the 946, including the Ricordo from 2013, Bellissima from 2014, Emporio Armani from 2016 and Red from 2017.
Due for release in early 2021, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior will initially be available in Dior boutiques only, followed by Vespa/Piaggio dealers in Europe. Australian availability of this special edition is unconfirmed.
