Suzuki RM-Z250
The RM-Z250 comprises a compact, lightweight and powerful 250cc, four-stroke engine design, a strong and lightweight aluminium chassis, Showa suspension components and many high performance features to create the ultimate 250cc pro lites racer. Based around an over-square bore and stroke design, the compact 249cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine is designed for maximum performance. The composite-plated aluminium alloy cylinder offers increased durability, optimum engine cooling and operating temperature with a forged, two-ring piston designed for maximum oil retention and minimal wear.
An advanced four-valve cylinder head design with narrow included valve angle and titanium valves, plus new pentroof combustion chamber design offers improved combustion efficiency. A new direct ignition coil is mounted on the spark plug cap for lightweight and efficient combustion. The RM-Z250's cam profiles have been selected for a wide powerband with strong peak power, while the new intake and exhaust ports are engineered for maximum torque from mid-to-high rpm.
A new compact and lightweight crankcase breather system reduces crankcase pressure and improves durability. Featuring separate oil chambers for the transmission and crankshaft, the RM-Z250's semi-dry-sump lubri-cation system uses the transmission as the oil sump, allowing low crankshaft placement, reduced engine height and a low centre of gravity. For easy kick starting, the RM-Z250 includes an automatic decompression system. To minimise overall engine weight, the RM-Z250 includes a magnesium cylinder head, generator and outer clutch covers. New larger radiators combined with an updated water pump and redesigned radiator shrouds are incorporated for maximum cooling capacity and more stable engine operating temperature. Utilising an all-new transmission, the RM-Z250 features a new gear-type shifting mechanism for greater shift feel and precision. The Suzuki's exhaust system features a titanium construction for minimal weight, plus a re-packable aluminium and stainless steel muffler.
The RM-Z250 engine is housed by a lightweight, twin-spar aluminium alloy frame based on the championship winning RM-Z450, featuring a forged aluminium head pipe and body frame. Designed to offer excellent traction and control, the all new aluminium alloy swingarm consists of cast front sections and extruded main arms welded to a cast linkage bracket and forged axle holders. The Showa inverted, twin-chamber, cartridge-style front fork with 47mm inner tube includes 22-way compression damping, 20-way rebound damping and 310mm of wheel travel. At the rear, a Showa remote reservoir shock absorber with large 50mm piston and 18mm inner rod provides increased oil flow and stable damping performance.
The RM-Z250's rear linkage system places the suspension load on the swingarm instead of the frame to reduce frame weight, and allows smoother movement of the rear shock and linkage for improved rear wheel traction. For reduced vibration and improved rider feel, Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars with a Renthal-labelled handlebar pad are included as standard, and an on-the-fly clutch lever adjuster is mounted to the clutch lever perch for rider convenience.
The four-stroke RM-Z250 is expected to arrive in November with pricing to be advised closer to the arrival date.
