Suzuki announces DR150 for Australian market
Suzuki Motorcycles Australia have announced a new addition to their off-road range in the form of the DR150. Despite the ‘DR’ tag suggesting it’s a baby brother to the venerable DR-Z400 and its derivatives, the DR150 is closer to Suzuki’s Trojan 200 ag bike, offering private property and recreational riding capability in a smaller, lighter package.

Despite being factory-equipped with lights and indicators, the DR150 is not ADR approved for street use, so it cannot be road registered in Australia. This is due to the bike not being equipped with the dual-channel ABS that’s been mandatory for all new roadgoing models above 125cc capacity since late-2019. However, the DR150 would be eligible for recreational registration in Victoria.

Power for the DR150 comes from a 149cc single, which produces 8.79kW (11.8hp) at 8,000rpm and 11.6Nm at 6,000rpm. Said to deliver responsive performance at low revs, this air-cooled four-stroke is matched to a five-speed gearbox and chain final drive. Both electric and kick starters are fitted.

The running gear sits in a high tensile steel frame, with telescopic forks up front (offering up to 180mm travel) and a link-type monoshock at the rear. Braking combines a single disc and dual-piston caliper at the front with a drum at the rear. Spoked wheels are 19-inch front and 17-inch rear, shod with semi dual-sport tubed tyres.

The DR150’s two-up seat is said to be spacious and comfortable for rider and pillion, with a rider’s seat height of 839mm dropping to 780mm under load. This, combined with a low weight of 139kg wet and 244mm ground clearance, makes the DR150 suitable for farm use and mild off-road work. An LCD instrument display is standard, while the integral rear rack is rated to carry 7kg and comes pre-drilled to add a top box or other storage solution. Standard dimensions are 2,070mm x 825mm x 1,165mm (LxWxH), with a wheelbase of 1,360mm. Fuel capacity is 12.5 litres.

Available exclusively in Metallic Dazzling Cool Blue, the DR150 made its Australian debut in April. Ride away pricing of $3,290 is backed by a 12-month, unlimited km warranty. See your Suzuki dealer for further details.
