Jimmy Barnes to Rock the Phillip Island MotoGP
An added attraction for this year’s MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia on 23-25 October is a concert by rock ‘n’ roll icon, Jimmy Barnes. The live set, covering songs from Barnesy’s Cold Chisel years, as well as his long and celebrated solo career (that includes 22 #1 albums), will close out the evening on Saturday, 24 October, in style.
This year’s mix of MotoGP and music won’t be an entirely new experience for the two-time ARIA Hall of Fame member. Back in 1993, Barnes held a trackside concert at Eastern Creek as part of his Sweat It Out tour – before the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix returned to Phillip Island in 1997.
“There’s something magical that happens when you put fast motorbikes and fast music on the same bill - the event can turn into something that moves the senses,” Barnes said. “MotoGP audiences and myself go way back, since Wayne Gardner took me for a spin around Phillip Island so many years ago, and to get the opportunity to play at the Island's final GP will be a huge honour.”
Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Sport and Major Events, added: “It’s great to have Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes heading to Phillip Island for the MotoGP. Bringing together world-class motorsport and one of Australia’s most iconic live performers is a fantastic result for fans and for the Bass Coast region.”
With tickets for the final Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix to be held at Phillip Island selling fast, the addition of a Jimmy Barnes concert to Saturday’s programme is sure to see a bump in sales.
Entry to the Jimmy Barnes concert will be included in the cost of a Saturday ticket, whether that’s an Island Pass or any other ticket option valid for Saturday, 24 October.
To help fans make the most of this one-off experience, Catch-a-Coach departure times from the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit will be extended on Saturday, allowing concertgoers to stay longer, with extended services to Cowes township as well.
