Superbike Round 3 - Valencia
Both Valencia races were won by Bayliss (Xerox Ducati F06), with defending world champion Troy Corser (Alstare Suzuki GSX-R 1000) second both times. Corser secured the Superpole win with a 1'46.058 lap and led for the majority of laps in both races, but had to give way to Bayliss whose Ducati seemed to be working the tyres less hard than Troy's Suzuki. The final podium slot in both races went to Bayliss's team mate, Lorenzo Lanzi. Behind the podium trio, Norick Abe (Yamaha Motor France) put in his best ride of the season so far, fnishing ahead of Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Italia), the Japanese duo duplicating their fourth & fifth place finishes in race two.
A front row start for Steve Martin (Foggy Petronas FP-1) evaporated into a DNF result in the first race with tyre problems, while a fighting fifteenth in race two was the team's best result for the weekend, team mate Craig Jones finishing outside the points in both races.
In the championship, Bayliss extended his lead to 22 points over second placed Corser with Toseland third and Haga fourth. Andrew Pitt (Yamaha Italia) slipped back one place to sixth. Karl Muggeridge (Winston Ten Kate Honda) sat out this race with injury, whilst team mate James Toseland struggled at the Spanish circuit, a ninth place finish his best result.
