Senna Agius takes first win in Moto2
Australia’s Senna Agius is now a Moto2 race winner. Riding for Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP, the 19-year-old from NSW achieved his debut victory in a frenetic British Grand Prix that came down to the final corners.

Prior to the British GP, Agius’s best result this season had been third, but the Aussie showed pace early at Silverstone. Inside the top 10 for both Free Practise sessions, Agius was second fastest behind his team mate, Manuel Gonzalez, in the Final Practise session. In qualifying, Agius recorded a 2m03.137s lap to start from the middle of the second row on the grid. Gonzalez was in the middle of the first row, with Aron Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) on pole.

In the race, Canet secured the holeshot, with Agius amongst a following group of six who soon put a gap on the rest of the field. That number was reduced to four when Gonzalez and Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) collided on lap 4. Along with Canet and Agius, the leading group now included David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team), Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) and Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2).

Despite constant changes for position and the lead within this group, it seemed Canet had the advantage going into the final lap. However, Alonso made a pass stick at Stowe Corner and held the lead into the Vale chicane. Canet’s attempt to get past Alonso under brakes allowed Agius to pass both around the outside. As Canet, Alonso and Moreira rubbed fairings at Club Corner, Agius rode clear to win by 0.434 seconds.

“I was praying until the finish line and now I'm a Grand Prix winner, which is incredible,” Agius said.
“When I crossed the finish line, I started crying and stopped in turn one, looking up to the sky, because I dedicate this victory to my grandfather who passed away and was instrumental when I started my career in Europe.
“I would like to thank my team for the work and support that made it possible for me to climb to the top step of the podium in a world championship race."
