Royal Enfield 650 Twins continue local success
The shadow of COVID-19 appears to have had little effect on Royal Enfield in 2020, with their classically-styled 650cc twins – the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 – shining bright in what’s looking like a dark year for road bike sales in Australia.

Since their introduction to the local market in early 2019, the 650 twins have exceeded expectations, according to Royal Enfield's Marketing Manager, Mal Jarrett.
“The Interceptor and Continental models have been embraced by the motorcycling fraternity, by both new riders and returning motorcyclists alike,” Jarrett said.
“Purchasers are discovering that the twins are also bikes that can be retained long after they graduate from their restricted licences and are an excellent base for customising.
“And, as far as value for money goes, they really can't be beat.”

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 blends timeless looks with modern features and easy rideability. The 648cc SOHC air-cooled parallel twin outputs 35kW and 52Nm, with digital ignition and electronic fuel injection combining with classic looks and an unmistakable note from its twin silencers. The engine and 6-speed transmission sit in a dual loop cradle frame that offers the right mix of comfort and nimble handling.
A 41mm front fork with 110mm travel and twin shock rear with 88mm travel makes for a smooth ride, even with a pillion, while the braking – 320mm front disc and 240mm rear disc – is backed by the security of standard ABS.
A 7-inch headlight, Monza-style fuel cap, 18-inch spoked wheels, 804mm seat height and twin-clock instrumentation completes the Interceptor package. A stylish colour palette (including the two-tone ‘Baker Express’ pictured) covers just about any taste and there is a range of accessories available, too.
LAMS approved, the Interceptor 650 lists for $9,790 and is backed by a 3-year/unlimited km warranty with 24/7 roadside assist.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 takes the Interceptor 650 and gives it a sharper, sportier edge.
The 648cc twin-cylinder engine (with the same 35kW and 52Nm maximum outputs), transmission, suspension, wheels and brakes are shared between both twins, but the Continental GT’s 793mm seat height is lower than the Interceptor. And at 198kg kerb weight, the Continental GT’s lighter, too.
The Continental GT 650 is also defined against the Interceptor 650 on style. An evolution of the Continental GT 535 single, the twin-cylinder Continental GT 650 features classic café racer styling touches, like a sculpted fuel tank, clip-on handlebars, rearset footpegs and optional solo seat cowl, but the riding position remains comfortable and controllable.
There are a range of colour choices available, from Ice Queen to Dr. Mayhem, as well as a range of optional accessories.
LAMS approved, the Interceptor 650 lists for $9,990 and is backed by a 3-year/unlimited km warranty with 24/7 roadside assist.
In response to COVID-19 lockdowns that have led most Victorian motorcycle dealerships to close their doors to new and used bike sales, Royal Enfield dealerships initiated an online ordering process, where you can order and pay for any new Royal Enfield motorcycle remotely, with pickup from your nearest Royal Enfield dealer. Finance is available, too.
