Price wins 2012 Hattah Desert race
On Saturday, Price qualified fastest in the all-important Prologue, setting the pace with a 3:14.053sec. His effort was a full 4.5 seconds quicker than the remainder of the field. On Sunday, Price was relentless in his quest for victory at Hattah, finishing the gruelling eight-lap race in four hours, 16 minutes and 21.135 seconds.
Price final time was 5:48.948sec ahead of his nearest rival, Josh Green (Team Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Racing - Yamaha YZF 450). Offroad racing veteran, A.J. Roberts (Team Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Racing - Yamaha WR450R), completed the podium.
Other favoured racers, in the 250 - 450 Senior class that produced the winners, included Warren Smart (Suzuki), Glenn Kearney (Husqvarna) and Mat Fish (KTM). All finished inside the top ten (fifth sixth and eighth respectively), but couldn't reel in the dominant Price, whose Hattah victory comes on the back of a similarly impressive result at the Finke Desert Race in June.
"The Hattah Desert Race came together really well in 2012 and it's definitely nice to get another win under my belt," Price commented. "I was able to qualify fastest in the Prologue, which meant I could take off first and pretty much have a dust-free run on my way to win number three. It was a great win for KTM and for myself."
One of Motorex KTM's rising stars, Ben Burrell, took out the 250cc four-stroke division (15th outright), while current Australian Off-Road Champion Chris Hollis crashed out in the early stages of the event.
