Motorcycle tyres revived
Launched just four months ago, the Byron Bay-based business uses motorcycle, car and truck tyres to create, via their Indonesian artisans, unusual outdoor furniture.
Despite their short time in the market, Retyred Furniture are reportedly seeing an incredible response from a wide variety of customers.
Monica Corser from Retyred Furniture said it was their way of doing their bit to turn tyres marked for landfill into something useful for the home.
"We take discarded motorcycle, car and truck tyres and work with Indonesian artisans who are able to embrace the natural attributes of the tyres to produce a beautiful range of furniture," said Corser.
"It creates a fair trade opportunity for the local business and puts sustainability at the core of our business.
"The furniture retains the durability and integrity of the tyres and the rubber makes it extremely comfortable."
Retyred Furniture will display a range of its outdoor furtniture line, including a custom-made piece that is expected to be a hit with motorcycle enthusiasts.
"We've used the distinctive white-wall tyres of a Harley-Davidson to create a chair which we're sure will get people talking," she continued.
"We can take tyres people provide to us and have certain pieces custom made which gives them a sentimental value," Corser added.
Retyred Furniture is one of over 135 exhibitors gearing up for the Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne, coming to the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre this November 23-25. For more details on the Expo, go to www.motorcycleshow.com.au
