MotoGP Round 13. October 2007
The whole paddock was thrown into turmoil when torrential rain hit the circuit, leaving knee deep water in some sections of the track as well as flooding garages up & down pit lane.
With clear weather for the race, and thousands of passionate Italian fans looking on, Rossi started from second on the grid with high hopes of a podium battle with pole-sitter and championship leader, Casey Stoner (Marlboro Ducati).
Rossi dropped one place at the start, then another a few turns later as the Rizla Suzukis of John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen came through. Any chance of a challenge to the Suzuki pair evaporated on lap five when the engine on Rossi's Yamaha M1 lost power and he was forced to coast back to the pits. The result now makes any chance of a challenge to Stoner for the championship highly unlikely.
Both the Repsol Hondas were taken out of the race early, in an incident triggered by Kawasaki's Randy De Puniet that also dropped Kurtis Roberts (Team KR) to the back of the pack.
With most of the serious opposition eliminated early, Stoner was virtually unbeatable, despite some close attention from Vermeulen, who cut the gap to less than a second, but couldn't maintain it. Stoner would eventually finish over four seconds ahead of Vermeulen, notching up Ducati's first MotoGP win on 'home soil' in the process.
While his team mate was skittling others, Australia's Ant West rode a solid, but unremarkable race to finish eighth.

250cc
Jorge Lorenzo claimed another territory of "Lorenzo's Land" with a strong victory at Misano. The Spaniard's win was made easier when championship rival, Andrea Dovizioso DNF'd with engine problems. The Honda rider had led the race early. Alvaro Bautista threaded his way through the pack after a bad start, and was knocking on a podium place when he fell on lap nine.
Lorenzo's win gives him a 55 point championship lead going into the next round.
125cc
A fast and furious 125cc race saw several riders crash out. The bad luck that has dogged Mattia Pasini stayed away for a round, as the Italian rode a perfect race to lead the field away, survive a mid-race scramble, then ride clear to finish more than six seconds clear of second-placed Gabor Talmacsi. KTM's Tomoyoshi Koyama finished third.
