LONG TERM TEST – 2018 BMW S 1000 R
Question: What’s a suitable day bag for the BMW S1000R?
Answer: The Kriega 10-litre.
After a week of road testing a Kriega 10-litre bag on our long-term S 1000 R, we found its capacity to be perfect for those day trips when you need to carry a small amount of cargo, a change of clothes or to stow extra layers after departing on those cold mornings.

Kriega 10-litre – the good stuff
Fasteners -
Neat and easy to hide under the pillion seat when not in use, the fasteners are simple webbing (tie down material) straps that have a loop at each end. There are four fasteners in total – one for each corner of the bag - that connect to alloy clips that slide through the loops. The straps are then pulled tight to secure the bag to the pillion seat.
Attaching or removing the bag takes less than 60 seconds.
Netting – A rubber net on the underside stops the bag from slipping loose and also protects painted or metal parts when attached to a tank or pillion-seat cover.
Style – Finished in black, the bag blended nicely with the BMW’s appearance, as it would with most bikes’ colour schemes.
Storage – The main bag is 10-litre capacity, with a smaller zip-up top section that’s handy for wallet, phone, glasses, etc.
Waterproof – The bag’s main compartment is waterproof. You stuff your gear in from the top, not dissimilar to a hiking backpack. Once full, you roll the top to create a watertight seal and clip the top to the bag to stop it unfolding.
Size Options – Kriega make bags in a variety of sizes that interconnect, so you can stack them if you have more than one. Bags designed to attach to different locations on the bike are also available.

Security - There is no locking system, either for the top opening flap, or attachment to the bike. But it connects so neatly that it doesn’t stand out as an item to pinch (I left the bag connected while stopped at numerous small towns and locations with no incidents).
Kriega 10-litre – the conclusion
Practical, functional and stylish, the Kriega 10-litre bag worked well as a small daypack to connect to our BMW S 1000 R and would be my pick if I needed something similar in the future. If you need to carry stuff, check out the Kriega range before you buy anything.
