Kymco updates Downtown 350i TCS
Kymco has released the second-generation version of their Downtown 350i TCS, which increases spec levels on the sport-touring scooter without raising the price.

The ‘TCS’ suffix stands for Traction Control System, which is one of two new additions on the updated version, the other being Kymco’s rider-centric ‘Noodoe Navigation’ satnav. The Euro 4-compliant 321cc single-cylinder engine and CVT have been updated, with cornering clearance and lean angle improved thanks to restyled bodywork.

Kymco claims the traction control delivers a sharper, smarter and more sophisticated sport-touring experience, complementing the ABS that’s already standard fitment. Detecting sudden differences in speed between front and rear wheels, or sudden grip losses at the rear, Kymco’s traction control system works with the ABS to “help restore the Downtown 350i TCS to safety”.

The rider-centric Noodoe navigation provides what Kymco says is “at-a-glance, real-time directions” and street-countdown indications, not distance to turn, thus allowing the rider to focus on the road.
Operated via an Apple/Android-compatible app, Noodoe integrates the rider’s smartphone with the standard colour TFT screen, with easy pre-ride destination entry as well as personalised journey navigation, with up to five destination able can be entered and transferred to the Downtown 350i TCS simultaneously.

The ‘G5SC’ 321cc liquid-cooled single still produces 21.2kW of power and 30Nm of torque, but peak power is now delivered lower in the rev range (at 7250rpm), while peak torque is produced at 5750rpm.

A new balance block reduces vibration at idle and low speed through use of an axe-shaped design, which Kymco says is high in strength and light in weight. A redesigned lower cowling provides a 40 per cent larger surface area for improved engine cooling, while a new oil lubrication system features a rectangular tank design and greater use of aluminium that also improves engine cooling.

Listed fuel consumption is 3.84lt/100km from the 12.5-litre fuel tank, for a riding range of around 325km.
The CVT now features high-strength construction for what’s said to be improved conversion efficiency.
Finally, revised bodywork on the updated Downtown 350i provides increased cornering ability and a lean angle that’s now up to 39 degrees.

“The Downtown 350i has proven popular across the world for its ability to be many things to many people – namely its ability to combine agility, comfort and versatility with safety and technology,” said Kymco Australia director Michael Poynton.
“The second generation Downtown 350i ups that ante without question, and it’s backed by Kymco’s industry-leading three-year factory warranty and network of 67 dealers Australia wide.”

Unchanged features and components include a steel-tube chassis, 37mm front suspension with 110mm travel and a twin-shock rear with 108mm travel and five-position preload adjustability.
Braking consists of twin 260mm floating discs with three-piston calipers up front and a 240mm disc with a twin-piston caliper at the rear. The ABS is the latest Bosch Generation 9.1M dual-channel system.

Standard storage solutions include a double glove compartment at the front that includes an easy-reach USB recharge port, while the underseat storage can take two full-face helmets and extra gear, and also includes a courtesy light.
The digital/analogue dash includes a comprehensive multifunction trip computer and a central display for the Noodoe navigation.
Other standard features include adjustable levers, multifunction ignition lock and a two-level saddle (775mm on the rider seat) that’s now finished in a combination of leather and vinyl.
The updated Downtown 350i is in dealerships now, available in Matt Silver and Matt Grey Metallic liveries. Pricing is unchanged from the first-generation version at $7,490 (+ ORCs), backed by a standard 3-year, unlimited km warranty.
