Indian previews new Scout
Features include an all-new 69ci (1133cc) v-twin engine, instead of the Chief's 111ci (1819cc) v-twin, as well as a bespoke cast aluminium frame.
With its smaller size, lighter weight and more manageable power, the Scout is pitched at riders of all ability levels, and should see Indian broaden their appeal beyond the full-size cruiser market.
2015 Indian Scout
Tipping the scales at 253kg (wet) - amongst the lightest in class - the all-new Scout was derived from what Indian says was a clean sheet design, creating a middleweight cruiser that continues the Scout's lineage.
Advanced technology in the design and engineering includes a breakthrough chassis design featuring a lightweight and rigid cast aluminium frame coupled with a low 642mm seat height.
Power comes from the aforementioned 1133cc v-twin, which is liquid-cooled and produces 100hp.
Indian says the new model's low seat height, manoeuvrability and lightweight design will appeal to riders of all sizes and experience levels, while the high horsepower and superior handling make it a bike that will thrill even the most experienced riders.
Described as the first truly new Indian Scout in more than 70 years, continues the lineage of the bikes that conquered the infamous "Wall of Death" and carried the legendary "Indian Wrecking Crew" motorcycle race team to multiple victories. Scouts also served the US and other armies during World War II.
For us here in Australia and New Zealand, the best-known Scout is the 1920 example that Kiwi Burt Munro used to earn the title of "World's Fastest Indian" in 1967.
"Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout has earned its reputation as a versatile, multifaceted bike that appeals to just about every rider and every riding style, with superior handling, balance, performance and craftsmanship," said Peter Harvey - Indian Motorcycle Australia Country Manager.
"Our designers and engineers have taken that heritage and those characteristics and fused it into the 2015 Indian Scout, and we think just about everyone who rides this incredible bike is going to feel like it was built just for them."
