Husqvarna announce TR650 road bikes
Based heavily on the BMW G650 GS, the TR650 offerings are split across two distinct models, each with different characteristics. The "Terra" version is for light off-road terrain, while the "Strada" is an asphalt-only fun machine. Basic styling, configuration and Husqvarna's powerful 652cc single cylinder engine with constant-mesh 5-speed gearbox is common to both models.
Modified from the BMW G650 GS engine, the Husqvarna powerplants feature different EFi, camshafts and compression ratio for enhanced performance - 43 kW (58 hp) at 7,250 rpm, and maximum torque of 60 Nm at 5,750 rpm. Husqvarna have also produced a restricted LAMS model, with 35 kW (48hp) at 7,250 rpm and 54 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm, but it's unconfirmed whether this variant will be released locally.
A split-backbone tubular steel frame with removable rear frame and front beam bolted to the engine is common to both the TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra. Front suspension consists of a 46 mmm USD telescopic fork. The rear features a dual swing arm made of pentagonal steel tubing in conjunction with a centrally-mounted rear shock with progressive linkage. Suspension travel is 190 mm front and rear, making for easy handling, directional stability and off-road ability.
The TR 650 Strada features light cast alloy wheels, while theTR650 Terra features spoke wheels and high front guard. Braking consists of single discs front and rear. The TR 650 Strada is fitted with ABS as standard, while this feature is optional on the TR 650 Terra. The Strada ABS is disengageable for special uses.
Styling across both models gives a sense of agility and lightness. Black-coated chassis elements such as frame and swingarm are common to both models, with red side trim elements for the TR 650 Terra, and a black side panel for the TR 650 Strada. The black is broken up by light-gray sand-cast engine cases, anodized-silver upside-down forks and the end caps of the twin exhausts.
The Australian version of the TR 650 Strada will come with ABS as standard. The TR 650 Terra will come without ABS. Optional accessories include a windshield, hand protectors, lower seat, engine guard, heated grips, alarm system, rear softbag, topcase and side panniers.
Both models are not expected to arrive before late November or December this year.
