How Marquez can win 2013 MotoGP title in Australia
With another podium finish at Sepang on the weekend, Marquez has opened up a larger gap on his main championship rival, Jorge Lorenzo, but his Repsol Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa isn't entirely out of the running, either.
If the cards fall the right way this weekend, Marquez will not only win the 2013 World Championship, he will also be the youngest ever premier class champion, and the first rookie to win the title since Kenny Roberts in 1978.
Marquez's destiny will depend on his own results and the finishing positions of Lorenzo and Pedrosa, but he must finish at least eighth to claim the crown.
Marquez will become World Champion in Australia under the following circumstances:
- Marquez wins and Lorenzo finishes third or lower
- Marquez finishes second, Lorenzo fifth or lower and Pedrosa does not win
- Marquez finishes third, Lorenzo eighth or lower and Pedrosa does not win
- Marquez finishes fourth, Lorenzo 11th or lower and Pedrosa does not win or finish second
- Marquez finishes fifth, Lorenzo 13th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium
- Marquez finishes sixth, Lorenzo 14th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium
- Marquez finishes seventh, Lorenzo 15th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium
- Marquez finishes eighth, Lorenzo fails to score and Pedrosa does not finish in the top four
Last year, Marquez won the Moto2 world title at Phillip Island.
