Honda update VFR 800F for 2014
The 800cc V4 powerplant remains, but has had some design changes, with input coming from Honda's championship-winning race bikes, like the RC213V. The VTEC valve system has been revised to boost low and mid-range power, which Honda says delivers greater engine efficiency and a smoother ride, without affecting fuel economy.
Honda's TCS (Traction Control System) makes that newfound power easier and safer to use, while sophisticated 2-channel ABS is fitted as standard.
The VFR 800F's diamond triple-box section aluminium twin-spar frame is unchanged; however the die-cast aluminium subframe has been redesigned and is now 3kg lighter than the previous model. Total kerb weight is reduced by a significant 10kg on the 2014 model.
Completely new features include the aluminium single-sided Pro-arm swingarm and 43mm Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) telescopic fork which have been redesigned in two pieces to accept radial-mount four-piston brake calipers.
The 'Elegant Sport' tag has been given for the aesthetic makeover, which Honda says is fresh and new but still recognisable to anyone familiar with the previous model VFR.
Seat height is adjustable by 20mm; the new dashboard features digital readouts for speed, engine revs, gear position, ambient temperature, fuel consumption and a clock. There's also a redesigned 'wave' key with internal grooving to reduce the chance of breakage.
The headlight is now an LED - which is brighter and more energy-efficient than older designs. So is the rear light - which integrates the stop light and indicators as one unit
Options to suit the touring motorcyclist include a range of matching panniers and a top box, each with matching inner bags.
To mark the introduction of the new VFR 800F, Honda dealers around Australia are retailing the 2014 model for a Manufacturer's List Price of just $14,599* - but only for the month of June.
