Honda announce new Goldwing F6C
Billed as an "urban cruiser," key features on the stripped-back F6C are suspension modifications in accordance with the new model's reduced weight, a new rear subframe, dual four-piston caliper front brakes and an ergonomic riding position.
Scheduled to arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2014, the Goldwing F6C weighs in at around 70kg lighter than the full-fruit tourer, but uses the same 1,800cc fuel-injected six-cylinder engine as the stock Goldwing for abundant torque.
The 1,800cc, horizontally opposed SOHC, two-valve, six-cylinder engine is fed by PGM-FI controlled fuel-injection with twin 40mm Keihin throttle bodies and a 6.6-litre airbox and panel-type air filter specific to the F6C.
During development, several exhaust systems were prototyped to deliver what Honda say is a perfectly balanced 'dual personality' exhaust note, delivering a throaty growl at low rpm and high-pitched crescendo at maximum revs.
The F6C twin-spar frame is constructed from lightweight multi-box aluminium sections, aided by the engine's low centre of gravity to create balanced handling at all speeds. A new aluminium subframe lowers the F6C's rear and offers easy ground reach from the comfortable seat, enhancing rider confidence at standstill.
The Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) monoshock, with manually-adjusted spring preload, works through a Pro-Link on the single-sided aluminium swingarm. Spring and damping rates front and rear have also been modified to suit the reduced weight.
Steering geometry and wide, rubber-mounted swept-back handlebars ensure excellent control with improved rider feel. To further improve stability, the front/rear weight bias is more even, while the engine support beam's rigidity balance slightly altered.
A Dual Combined ABS braking system ensures rapid and secure stopping power on all road surfaces and conditions.
Stripping the bodywork, fairing, screen and panniers gives the F6C a distinctive, burly appearance that Honda says has "incredible visual appeal" and is reminiscent of the original, naked 1975 Goldwing.
The new sibling to the Goldwing and Goldwing F6B also features LED lights and a stylish LCD dash display.
Available in Graphite Black only, the Goldwing F6C will be released in the second quarter of 2014, with more information regarding pricing and exact arrival dates to be revealed closer to the actual release date.
