Harley board tracker racer to be auctioned
From the "golden era" of board track racing in the US, the lot on offer is a 1918 example, with a 61ci v-twin and hand-shift three speed transmission. While board trackers were characterised by their lack of brakes, this one does have a rear drum brake.
Along with Indian and Henderson, Harley was one of the most successful makes on the treacherous wooden board racetracks of the 1910s and 20s. According to the Mecum auction description, Harley Davidson earned over 200 records and victories by the 1920s. Actual competition history for this machine, if any, is not listed.
Special features on the example to be auctioned include a Messinger leather seat, customised fuel tank, and a number of chromed parts.
Other Harley-Davidson lots of interest from the upcoming Mecum auction include an AMF-era 1974 Aermacchi/Harley SR100 single, restored '75 XR750, mild custom '65 panhead Duo Glide, '69 Sprint 350cc single, '75 Electra Glide, plus a number of Harley motormobilia items.
Mecum's Kissimmee, Florida auction is scheduled for January 24 - 29, 2012. Further details on these and other lots to be auctioned - more than 100 are on offer, including several no reserve lots - can be found at www.mecum.com
