Get dapper for the 2016 DGR
This year, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is expected to attract more than 50,000 dapper riders from more than 500 cities across 90 countries - all in their finest finery, of course! - with a fundraising goal of $5 million.
There are two essentials for the DGR: a classic-style motorcycle and a wardrobe to match. On the bike front, that means a bona fide classic ride, café racer, scooter, brat, bobber, chopper or street tracker, but modern bikes in the classic style are also welcome.
On the gear front, forget your latest textile jackets and all-weather riding boots - the DGR requests you don tweed, bowtie or cravat, old-school leather gauntlets and a retro open-face helmet. But in the interests of safety, Kevlar skins under your dapper duds, or oversized clothes to wear over normal leathers, are encouraged.
Participants are also encouraged to raise funds for the Movember Foundation's men's health programs, with all entrants who raise more than $200 receiving a special commemorative patch, with prizes from event sponsors also up for grabs, including a new Triumph Thruxton R.
All the info on the ride nearest you (there are rides planned at more than two dozen locations so far), as well as how to donate, what to ride and what to wear, can be found on the DGR website: gentlemansride.com
