GasGas previews MC-E 3 junior dirtbike
GasGas have announced a new addition to their electric range for junior riders – the MC-E 3.
Sized and spec’d between GasGas’s 12eDrive/16eDrive balance bikes and the MC-E 5 (the electric equivalent of the MC 50), the MC-E 3 is aimed at kids under 5 years of age (approximately) or those not yet large enough to safely operate the MC-E 5.
Key features include six ride modes that adjust power output and a seat that’s adjustable from 555mm to 600mm high. The lack of a gearbox allows juniors to learn the basics of balance and throttle control, then make adjustments to the power delivery as they gain skill and confidence.
An integral “Control Centre” shows battery charge level and allows the different ride modes to be easily set by toggling through the options. Supplementary to this, a dongle under the seat allows the ride mode to be set so kids can’t override it.
Being electric, the MC-E 3 produces no exhaust fumes and virtually no noise, making it suitable for big backyards and built-up areas with nearby neighbours.
The 3.8kW 48V motor is light, sits low in the frame and produces 2kW and 10.5Nm. A roll-over sensor automatically cuts power if the bike hits the ground, with a wrist lanyard for the rider also cutting power in the event of a fall.
Fuelling the maintenance-free, dust-resistant and water-resistant motor is a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery that’s been specifically designed for mini-motocross bikes, according to GasGas.
Running time is up to two hours, depending on ride mode, with a Battery Management System standard. Recharge time (from a standard household outlet) is one hour, with 80 per cent charge achievable in just 30 minutes.
Braking consists of 160mm wave-pattern discs front and rear, with rear-brake operation by a lever on the left-hand handlebar.
Aesthetically, the MC-E 3 replicates GasGas’s bigger MX bikes with red plastics highlighted with unique, durable graphics and a splash of blue to signify its electric drive. The chromoly steel frame is powder coated red to suit.
Other features include WP suspension (with WP XACT USD 35mm forks), 10-inch spoked wheels with anodised rims, Maxxis tyres and a Neken handlebar with smaller-diameter ODI grips to suit small hands.
Australian arrival of the MC-E 3 is not expected until 2024. For more details, contact your GasGas dealer.
