Finland to be added to MotoGP calendar
While there is no Scandavian round in the FIM MotoGP World Championship, both Finland and Sweden have featured in the premier class in the past, with Finland last hosting a round in 1982 (at Imatra), and Sweden in 1990 (at Anderstorp - where Wayne Gardner won in 1987).
No date has been set for the Finnish round, but it will take place at the 'KymiRing' track in Iitti, which is approximately 100km north east of the Finnish capital, Helsinki.
Currently under construction, the FIM and Dorna working in close collaboration with all parties involved in the KymiRing to ensure the circuit is homologated in time for the 2018 World Championship season.
Dorna CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, signed the contract with the Finnish delegation and Dorna's Managing Director Events Area, Javier Alonso, at the Sachsenring MotoGP round.
The announcement that MotoGP is set for a return to Finland for the first time in more than 30 years reflects what Dorna Sports says is the global appeal and growing popularity of the FIM MotoGP World Championship.
