CB 750 Charity Raffle Results
In case you missed it, the Honda CB 750 Four Owners Club of Australia decided to honour the 50th Anniversary of the CB 750 Four in 2019 by organising a big bike raffle, with proceeds supporting the Black Dog Institute mental health charity.
Co-ordinated by Andrew Barker of Pud’s Four Parts, the club took on the daunting task of restoring not one, but three classic Honda CB Fours – a CB 750, CB 500 and CB 350. All three were 1972 models and presented various challenges, as the starting point for each restoration was far from what you’d call ‘good’!
Even with the support of CB Four parts specialists, local, national and international businesses, each bike took around 12 months to bring back to life, after which the CB 750 Four Owners Club of Australia took them to various shows and events throughout 2019, like the Phillip Island Classic and Broadford Bike Bonanza, promoting the raffle.
JUST BIKES played a part, too, chronicling the restoration of each bike, which the club acknowledged was a tremendous boost to ticket sales.
When the raffle closed on 17 November, more than 2,000 tickets had been sold, with the club reporting that many CB enthusiasts had purchased multiple tickets to boost their chances of winning! More importantly, a significant amount of money had been raised for the Black Dog Institute.
The raffle had been structured so that the first valid ticket drawn would receive their choice of any one of the three classic Hondas, with the second ticket drawn able to choose from the remaining two, with the third ticket drawn getting the last bike.
When the raffle was drawn on 24 November, Barry Woollans, of Manjimup, Western Australia, was the first ticket plucked out of the barrel and had no hesitation in choosing the CB 750. Barry had owned a CB 750 as a young man, so was overjoyed to be a CB 750 owner once again, with plans to spend a LOT of time in the saddle.
Proving the nationwide appeal of the Great Honda CB Charity Raffle, the second ticket drawn was from Queensland and the third from Victoria. Changes in circumstances for the supplementary winners – of the CB 500 and CB 350 – have since led them to put the bikes on the market, so look for them in the pages of JUST BIKES in the future.
