Burgess wins 2012 250 Proddie championship
In the the final round at Queensland Raceway, Burgess scored 1-2-2 results, continuing the dominance in the class he's displayed all season, even in the face of rule changes designed to limit his runaway success. The 18-year-old finished the championship with a 56 point buffer over his nearest rival.
Kawasaki Ninja 250R riders claimed all three podium spots for this round, with Queenslander Jack Baker (son of Crazy Dogs Kawasaki Dealership Principal Richard Baker) taking 2nd place and South Australian Evan Byles (SA Motorcycles Dealership Principal) taking 3rd.
After winning National and State dirt track titles (all on Kawasaki KX machinery), Burgess went road racing in 2010. The Queenslander won the State (QLD) Road Race championship first time out, but the weekend's National 250cc championship comfortably tops that.
"This is a great result for myself, Mackay Kawasaki and Kawasaki Australia, Burgess said, who has been on the green machines throughout his professional career. "Whatever rule changes they threw at us this season, the Ninja 250R still came out on top every time. I'm so happy to be the Australian champion and win a National road race title."
"The Ninja 250R performed brilliantly throughout the entire series. My dad, Dale Burgess, who's the owner of Mackay Kawasaki, made sure my bike was just right every round and he's been a great support as has all my family, sponsors and support crew. I hope that this title is the first of many. I look forward to winning more races and titles on Kawasaki."
Burgess finished with 343 points. Second in the 250cc Production Championship for 2012 was Honda's Zac Levy (287 points), followed by Byles (223 points).
