Buell is back!
The EBR 1190RS has its roots in the 1190RR developed for the AMA Superbike series in 2010. That 1190cc v-twin race bike served as a test mule for the production model, of which only 100 are being produced.
Australia has been lucky enough to secure five examples of these high performance flagship machines, dubbed the EBR 1190RS 'Carbon Edition,' with dealerships in Victoria and WA already snapping up two.
Designed from the ground up to be the lightest and most agile motorcycle in its class, the 1190RS delivers impressive figures of 175 hp, 131 Nm and 176 kg - all exciting numbers, but they only tell part of the story that is the EBR 1190RS.
The EBR 1190RS has quite a few motorcycle firsts:
- "Hubless" wheel design, this is an EBR in house designed and manufactured first, specifically designed to maximise the weight savings offered by the 1190RS's proprietary perimeter front brake system. This design offers massive (around 50 %!!) weight savings over the best conventional systems available.
- The brake systems both front and rear are designed and manufactured by EBR.
- All the carbon fibre components on the motorcycle are manufactured and designed in house by EBR, some in an Autoclave machine which was also manufactured by EBR themselves!
- The 1190RS utilises a perimeter frame, with an integrated fuel tank that enables the bike to maintain an extremely good centre of gravity at all times, and has the added benefit of providing a weight saving by eliminating the fuel tank as a separate item.
- In the design process for the 1190RS, all of the components were first designed in CAD and subjected to finite analysis before any physical components were made. Whilst this is common in high end automotive manufacture, it's rare in the motorcycle world. This process enables individual parts to be made as light as possible while still providing overall structural integrity.
- The 1190RR which was developed for the AMA Superbike series in 2010, was and still is used as a rolling test bed for the development of the 1190RS and future RX model. To the extent that the 2013 race bike is essentially a road going 1190RS with race fairings, slicks and some slight engine modifications for performance.
A rideaway price of $54,990 for the EBR 1190RS has been provided by Erik Buell Racing Australia. Given its extremely limited edition status, you'd better act fast if you want one!
