Bryan Staring to trade Kawasaki for Suzuki at Phillip Island 8 Hour
"Both Ben Henry and Nick Waters are great riders and I look forward to the challenge," said Staring.
"It should be a fantastic race to watch so I want to encourage as many race fans as possible to get down to Phillip Island and make a weekend of it. This could become a round of the World Endurance Championship in years to come."
The 24-year-old from Perth is leaving his run to the absolute last minute, arriving back from Europe Thursday night, right on the eve of Friday's first practise session! However, Staring knows the Phillip Island track intimately, so it shouldn't take long for the 2009 Aussie Supersport and 2010 Aussie Superbike champ to readjust.
Staring has spent 2011 on the Pedercini Kawasaki ZX-10R in the FIM European Superstock 1000 Cup, and also entered as a wildcard for the Pedercini Superbike squad at this year's Phillip Island World Superbike round. After a positive start to the season and top five finishes on the Kawasaki ZX-10R, Staring suffered a succession of crashes and mechanical dramas that saw him finish well down the order in his debut year of Superstock 1000 competition.
A positive result at the 8 Hour may be just the confidence boost Staring needs ahead of his return to European competition in 2012. However, Staring and his Cube Racing team mates will have the job ahead of them against the factory Suzuki squad, who are hot favourites amongst the 25 teams that will be contesting this year's 8 Hour.
The Phillip Island 8 Hour is a three day event, running from Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 4. Support races, practise and qualifying take place on the Friday and Saturday, with the 8 Hour itself scheduled to start at 9:30AM on Sunday.
General admission prices will be $45 for a three-day pass, or $25 for entry on Sunday only.
