Brough Superior SS80 top seller at MidAmerica Auction
The lot on offer was a 1938 Brough Superior SS80 that had been part ofthe private collection of Guatemalan car and bike enthusiast, Mario Sueiras, until 2005, when it was acquired by the vendor. There was very little information on the motorcycle, but it was advertised as being in very nice condition and running perfectly.
As you can see from the photos, the SS80 isn't quite up to concours standard, but it wouldn't take much for the new owner to turn this classic bike into a trophy winner. The SS80 sold for US$65,000.
Other good results included US$38,000 paid for a restored military-spec 1944 Indian 841 and US$33,000 paid for a fully restored1923 Harley JD v-twin. Another military-spec bike, a 1957 Triumph TRW still in its crate, sold for US$34,500. A well-worn 1980 DucatiTT2 factory racer also sold well at US$34,000. A stripped Indian Sport Scout Racer thatfinished runner-up inthe 1940 Daytona 200 sold strongly, going forUS$29,900
MidAmerica Auctions' Pebble Beach event featured a number of classic and rare motorcycles, including a one-off 'Winchester' and highly sought after 'Rikuo' Japanese Harley-Davidson copy, which sold for US$35,000. Other lots of interest included a number of classic BSAa and Triumphs and some rare veteran motorcycles from the likes of Reading, NSU, Nortonand Wagner.
