Bike of the month. May 2008
Rising interest rates, fuel prices, parking, public transport, independence, it's all high on the agenda for city dwellers in 2008 Australia. But what can you do? The country seems to be ignoring the facts and yet something must change to make life fun and affordable again. Consider a scooter !
No longer the domain of any number of minority groups, Australia's Mr and Mrs Mainstream have embraced this easy to own alternative to high costs and daily grind.
In Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, car drivers with open licenses can buy a 50cc scooter without any need for a test or further license. In other states, a further license is required, but this is easy to attain. A great example of this new revolution is the TGB 101S, a 50cc scooter built in Taiwan.
In a short period of time, this little wonder has proven to be one of Australia's most popular scooters - and for good reason. The market sees no shortage of entries, yet only a handful of models make up the majority of the 15,000 annual sales.
TGB's 101S makes its friends by being easy to buy, easy to own and fun to use. Light and powerful, the 101S uses a tried and proven two stroke air cooled engine that is a breeze to own. The old issue of mixing oil with the fuel is a thing of the past, as TGB's auto mixing system adds just enough oil to make sure the bike runs
to perfection and also respects the environment.
Roomy for its size and capacity, the 101S will suit riders of various sizes and has the power to carry two.
A simple, accurate and easy to read instrument panel includes a fuel gauge and warning lights, to top up fuel and the two stroke oil container.
As per all TGB scooters, the under seat storage is very generous, easily accommodating a helmet, wallet, mobile phone and more. Another standard feature on TGB's is a sturdy steel rear rack and removable, lockable top box. The latter allows a second helmet or even a decent-sized grocery run to be stored in security.
Suspension is very compliant for this level of scooter, with decent trqavel and good clearance, while the single pot disc brake and wheel sizes enable good road holding and excellent manners over Australia's bumpiest roads.
Available in four popular colours - yellow, silver, black and red, TGB's 101S has a very affordable RRP of only $1,890, plus on road costs.
What makes this bargain price even better value is that MotoRevo are also throwing in a free helmet with each new TGB101S sold - see the advert on the inside back cover of this issue for more details - and more great deals!
This month's outstanding scooter is available from MotoRevo - Queensland's new scooter, commuter and performance bike retailers.
