Bike of the Month. Feb 2010
This 1957 Victoria Vicky M51 moped is in need of a full restoration, but still remains in remarkably good condition considering its age. It was last registered in 1973, and in its day represented 'pedal power at its finest'.
Victoria, unfortunately is no longer with us as a company, but still has a strong following of owners/collectors and enthusiasts, especially in Europe.
The Vicky is an elegant moped, which featured advanced engineering for its day. It was renowned for its reliable two-stroke 48cc engine, and two speed twist grip hand change transmission. The Vicky was the essence of economical transport. Its finish is generally good, with an open pressed frame with integral fuel tank, giving the Vicky its distinctive appearance. The chrome work is in fair condition, while the bike is finished in blue paint. It came with a speedometer and mileage indicator (often an accessory on similar bikes of the same era), dual rear view mirrors, and head light. The rear carrier has unique - and very useful - continental style spring clips, which will grip anything onto the sturdy carrier. Cantilever seat, and a well spaced leg stand are also standard. The engine had a claimed top speed of 28 mph and a compression ratio of 8:1. The fuel tank holds just over half a gallon, while the transmission is by independent chains. The rear suspension is dampened, for a reliable and comfortable ride. This is a genuine collectors item, but does need a full restoration, hence the generous price of just $1,000.
