Aitchison out of World Superbikes
What looked like a promising continuation of Aitchison's career in World Superbikes produced only 3 points in the five rounds the Aussie spent with the team, with a 14th place in race 2 at Donington Park his best result. Aitchison's performance at this year's Phillip Island round included an 18th place finish (race 1) and DNF (race 2).
The association reportedly ended amicably, with Aitchison rumoured to be looking for a ride in British Superbikes following the announcement.
"The team would like to thank Mark for the work carried out together and wishes him all the best for his professional career", said the team in a press release.
For the sixth round at Miller Motorsports Park circuit in Salt Lake City, American rider Jake Holden will ride the team's BMW S 1000 RR. This is believed to be a one-ride deal only, with no word on who the Team Grillini Progea rider will be for the rest of the 2012 season.
29-year-old Holden, from Tacoma, Washington, has been a professional rider since the age of 16 and racing in the AMA Pro Road Racing series since 2000, participating in the Superbike class in 2009 and finishing 10th overall.
"I am very excited to race with the Grillini Progea Superbike Team in the Salt Lake City WSBK round," Holden said of the announcement. "Miller Motorsports Park has been one of my favorite race tracks in the US. This race will be a new experience for me because I have dreamed of racing in WSBK ever since I started roadracing. I would like to thank Team Grillini Progea for giving me this great opportunity to race in WSBK championship in front of my friends and supporters".
