2021 A4DE cancelled
The 2021 Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) has been cancelled. Scheduled for 19-22 May in Harvey, Western Australia, this year’s A4DE is another victim of the ongoing uncertainties around border closures and travel restrictions sparked by fresh outbreaks of COVID-19.
The early call to cancel this year’s event came after consultation between Motorcycling Australia (MA) and host club, the Trail and Enduro Motorcycle Club of WA.
In an announcement made on 22 January - four months out from the event - A4DE Co-ordinator Collin Jennings said the tough decision was made so riders and teams weren’t planning for an A4DE that was unlikely to go ahead.
“We hope that this will mean that we can avoid the problems with accommodation and transport which will inevitably arise with a last-minute cancellation,” Jennings explained.
“The decision was made to ensure the safety of all involved: competitors, supporters, volunteers and the public.
“We are hopeful that the Covid-19 vaccine will have solid coverage Australia wide and people will be able to again travel uninhibited to future A4DE events.
“We are pleased to confirm that our naming rights sponsor, Pilot Air Compressed Air Specialists, have agreed to stay with us and will support us right through until the next A4DE, as are many of our other supporters and sponsors.
“We encourage riders to keep up to date with the latest developments via our web site – pilotaircompressorsa4de.com - as we will provide regular updates and news items.”
While coronavirus can be blamed for the 2020 and 2021 A4DE cancellations, the event was also cancelled in 2017 and 2019, suggesting the overall future of the A4DE is in doubt. However, MA and all the related clubs remain committed to the event, with the 2022 A4DE planned for Victoria and the Trail and Enduro Motorcycle Club of WA to host a rescheduled A4DE in 2023.
