2006 Supercross Masters Rd 2: Perth
Troy Carroll's (CDR Nokia Yamaha) round ended before it started, the multiple champion badly damaging his ankle in the first practice session and forced to sit out this round. Last round's SX Open sensation, Daniel Reardon (Team Kawasaki), was hampered with the flu, while Craig Anderson (No Fear Honda) ended his round in spectacular - if painful - fashion, crashing heavily off a triple jump after winning the opening two motos.
SX LITE
The SX Lites were devoid of the accidents and incidents that marked the SX Open class, but it did throw up its own surprise in the form of a breakthrough win for former junior class prodigy Kade Mosig (Full Throttle Sports Honda) in moto 2, ahead of Cody Mackie (Troy Lee Designs Kawasaki) and Bronte Holland (Electric KTM). Mitch Hoad won the opening moto with Danny Anderson (No Fear Honda) hot on his heels. Bronte Holland was third, ahead of veteran Cameron Taylor (Serco Yamaha) and Mosig. While the trio of youngsters took the spoils in moto two, established stars like Troy Dorron (No Fear Honda) and Ryan Marmont (Motorex KTM) were caught in a series of minor incidents that allowed the unheralded three to get away. Moto three saw Hoad record another win, albeit by default after Holland actually crossed the line first, but was penalised three places for passing under yellow flags. The penalty robbed the Victorian of what would have been his first SX Lite victory. Dorron and Marmont completed the podium. Robbie Marshall (Serco Yamaha) struggled throughout the WA stanza, outside the top ten in two of the three motos.

SX OPEN
Daryl Hurley's decison to switch from the RM250 2-stroke Suzuki to the RM-Z450 4-stroke paid off in spades for the Kiwi. Despite a lack of experience on the 4-stroke, Hurley's fifth, fourth and first place finishes secured him the round win ahead of Motorex KTM's US import, Tim Weigand. In the opening moto, Craig Anderson was unstoppable, banging out a super quick 33.860 second lap in the process. Ando was almost upstaged in moto two by Matt Moss (CDR Nokia Yamaha) who recorded the fastest lap (33.626), but an early off track excursion and injured hand meant he couldn't keep the charging Weigand, Burkhart (Shift Motul Suzuki) and CDR team mate Cheyne Boyd at bay.
Moss eventually dropped back to finish ninth while Ando recorded another easy win. Moto three looked to be another Anderson procession before the Honda rider came up short on a triple jump, knocking himself senseless in the spill. With the race red flagged, the restart became a shortened ten lap sprint, Hurley the victor ahead of Danny Ham (Axis Motorsports Honda), who is fast coming to grips with the Honda after poor results in the opening round.
