KTM PREVIEWS 990 RC R
KTM have revealed the first images of their upcoming 990 RC R. This all-new model, the Austrian brand’s first fully-faired large sportsbike in more than a decade, will also be the basis for an entry in Supersport competition. Both road-legal standard and Track editions of the 990 RC R will be offered.

Powered by a EURO5+ compliant LC8c parallel twin, the 990 RC R will produce 94kW and 103 Nm, while the shifter for the six-speed transmission can be reversed to race shift pattern.
The all-steel frame has been engineered for performance, with increased stiffness, more weight at the front end and a dedicated steering head angle of 25 degrees. This, along with a diecast aluminum subframe, provides the right feel and stability under acceleration, be it on bumpy roads or smooth racetracks, while also maintaining agility, especially at low speeds.

A focus on ergonomics provides the rider with a better connection when ‘tucking in’ at speed, supporting knees and arms, while reducing pressure on the hands. The fuel tank has been shaped to suit these requirements, with adjustable footrests as standard. Wind-tunnel-developed aero wings provide stability when braking and cornering at speed, with bodywork profiling designed with track use in mind, too.
Other features revealed so far include fully adjustable WP APEX open cartridge suspension, lightweight cast aluminum wheels and Michelin tyres.

KTM say only minimal modifications will be required for transition from the street-legal 990 RC R to the Track edition. These modifications strip away the road-legal essentials, add a race-spec exhaust and revised bodywork, incorporate protective components and fine-tune other elements.

“The KTM 990 RC R is a groundbreaking innovation for those who live for the thrill of cornering,” said Riaan Neveling, Head of KTM Global Marketing. “This bike offers power and prestige without the exorbitant price tag.
“We believe the KTM 990 RC R will quickly attain cult status because it excels at the two things it was designed for. Success will be evident on the track, but the unparalleled experience for customers on the road will truly set it apart.”
