2026 ProMX Championship gets underway this weekend
The Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX) is on the verge of its 2026 season opener, which will be held at Wonthaggi for the sixth successive year. Round 1 will see the three main classes – MX1, MX2 and MX3 – joined by the MXW women’s class and MX85 juniors on the weekend of 21-22 March.

One of the blue-chip rounds in the ProMX Championship, Wonthaggi offers a spectacular track layout and picturesque surrounds, plus wide-ranging hospitality and service options in the region that make it one of the most accommodating venues on the calendar.

In the premier MX1 class, back-to-back champion Kyle Webster (Team HRC Honda Racing Australia) will be looking to make a strong start to 2026, while team mate Wilson Todd and KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford will be aiming to prevent a three-peat! Joining Crawford at KTM this season is Zac Watson, who finished fifth in MX1 with Triumph last year.

Monster Energy CDR Yamaha, the most successful team in Australian MX history, had a tough 2025, with 2022 MX1 Champion Aaron Tanti missing most of the season with a serious neck injury, while Jed Beaton was leading the championship with two rounds to go before breaking his foot in a training accident. CDR had re-signed both riders to multi-year deals ahead of the 2026 season.
At Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing, 36-year-old Todd Waters continues to defy Father Time and will once suit up again for his own team.

In MX2, Brodie Connolly (Team HRC Honda Racing Australia) also went back-to-back last year, with Kayd Kingsford’s MX3 title and Charli Cannon’s MXW crown (her fourth) making it a clean sweep for Honda across all senior classes. Kingsford will step up to the MX2 class with Honda this year, joined by older brother Ryder, who was MX2 runner-up last year with Yamaha.
KTM’s MX2 campaign will be led by Byron Dennis, who finished fifth last year, while Dylan Walsh brings international experience in his return to the category with KTM. One of the newcomers to MX2 is Reid Taylor, who’s signed with Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing

The MXW class will once again be held in conjunction with the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup, which last year saw four nations (Australia, New Zealand, America and Africa) battle it out at Wonthaggi. Team Australia claimed the honours in 2025, thanks largely to Cannon, but this year, four-time WMX World Champion Courtney Duncan will join the action, aiming to wrest the Oceania Cup for the Kiwis.

Hosted by the Dandenong Motorcycle Club and held at the Wonthaggi Motocross Track (220 West Area Rd, Wonthaggi), Round 1 will see racing across both days. MX85, MXW, MX3 and MX2 will all have their opening motos on Saturday, 21 March, with MX1 running both their motos on Sunday, 22 March, when the MXW/Oceania Cup will also be decided.
Round one of the ProMX Championship is supported by the Victorian Government via its Significant Sporting Events Program and the Bass Coast Shire Council.
