THE STORY In 2008 the YZF-R125 initially came as a four-stroke replacement for the TZR125. Entering the market of small displacement four-stroke engine bikes, it quickly gained traction and became a popular choice for young riders. Competing with Honda’s popular CBR125R, Yamaha had a gap in their available range for a 125cc sport motorcycle. The YZF-R125 filled that gap by combining Honda’s easy-going ride with a little more range and grown up looks. THE BIKE A smooth and comfortable ride, the YZF-R125 includes controlled damping in the forks and shock, allowing the rider to chuck the bike around back roads while not feeling jarring on tough city streets. The Brembo two-piston front brake allows the bike to stop well and is more than enough for a such a light machine. The engine has a longer stroke than other 125 motorcycles to give more torque, but it’s easy to handle and provides flexibility that two-stroke rivals can only dream of. An excellent introduction to sports bikes or wonderful to possess as part of a collection.
