Racing has never been cheap, but thanks to a new kit from Yamaha Racing Developments (YRD), it's now a lot more affordable. YRD have released a kit that converts a YZ450F motocross bike into a road racer eligible for the new 450GP class - the 'YZ450GP'.

Racing has never been cheap, but thanks to a new kit from Yamaha Racing Developments (YRD), it's now a lot more affordable. YRD have released a kit that converts a YZ450F motocross bike into a road racer eligible for the new 450GP class - the 'YZ450GP'.

The kit includes 17-inch front and rear wheels with Dunlop slick tyres, new sprocket, all-new plastics, new triple tree, Marzocchi front suspension, new handlebars, a new Brembo front brake set-up, different pegs and pedals, LCD tacho/laptimer and a number of other parts.

With the kit fitted to a stock YZ450F, the bike qualifies for the newly-formed GP450 class that is becoming popular around the world. Being an entry-level class, and based heavily on existing production machinery, GP450 is seen as the ideal, cost-effective way to get into road racing.

Reverting the YZ450GP back to MX spec is easy, as the conversion does not require cutting or welding of the frame or other components.

For the local YZ450GP, the cost is subsidised to encourage new competitors to enter the class, as YRD's John Redding explained.
"With the help of Yamaha Motor Australia, the RRP of the YZ450GP machine is subsidised to help competitors enter this new and exciting race class. Plus if racers are serious about competing and have an existing YZ450F, we can supply kits for them to build themselves."

To help kick start the new class locally, YRD are offering a limited quantity of 2013 YZ450GP machines already converted and ready to ride. All the removed YZ450F MX componentry is included in the total price of $16,625 incl. GST.
