Yamaha XT250 Release
The engine has strong, usable power across the full rpm range, with especially strong torque in the low to mid speed range to improve trail riding performance as well as offering a new level of comfort for around town riding.
In addition to the universal ideals of light weight, slim feel and compactness, the body built around its semi-double cradle frame has been designed for optimum concentration of mass and lower centre of gravity for ideal overall machine balance. Engine capacity is increased from 223cc to 250cc and the new engine is mounted in a new-design frame that features less unsprung weight thanks to lighter wheel assemblies. This means boosted running speed and stronger off road performance.
The new model sports a 249cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve, single cylinder engine. The bore has been expanded to create short stroke cylinder dimensions of 74.0 x 58.0mm, and with a compression ratio of 9.5 to 1 the new engine produces both more power and more torque than before. Strong torque and sharp response characterises this engine across the entire rpm range.
The headlight mounts a lightweight halogen light (60W/55W) with a 133mm diameter lens. Also, a speed sensor type multi-function LCD digital speedometer (including clock, twin tripmeter functions) is adopted. The fuel tank is increased to 10 litres capacity while the shroud portion and plastics have been re-designed to higlight the bike's compact dimensions.
The maximum turning angle of the handlebars is close to that of a trials bike at 51 and this combines with the short 1,360mm wheelbase to provide a tight turning radius of 1.9m for extra manoeuvrability.
Other features include an air induction system for cleaner exhaust emissions, adoption of a spark arrester in the muffler and retractable brake and shift pedals.
The 2008 XT250 is available now for $6,499 and comes with a full 24 month warranty. See your Yamaha dealer for more details.
