XXX Redback Mini MotoX
A flick through the pages of this magazine indicates the pocket bike craze is as strong as ever and the competition side of the market is growing at an even faster rate. As evidenced by the addition of the 'PitBike Pro Tour' to this year's Australian Motorcycle Expo, there's a market out there for the serious mini moto and pitbike consumer.
If you're in that market - or are looking to get into it - you should take a close look at this month's feature bike, the XXX Redback from VMI Australia. As the name indicates, the XXX caters for the 'hard core' pitbike customer, the Redback boasting a spec level that places it firmly in serious competition territory.
First of all it has a 'jig welded' chromoly frame so that the fuel tank and seat all line up perfectly unlike a lot of other similar brands. An extensive use of lightweight aluminium is used on components like the swingarm, anodised rims, levers, billet handlebar mounts and crossbar, triple clamps, engine skid plate and even the fuel cap. The motor is a 4 stroke 107cc, with a 3 valve head design that runs sweet and smooth, add to that the fact that it runs a Japanese made Mikuni carby, which is a surprise on any mini moto. Once started the Redback sounds absolutely fantastic due to components like the high-flo washable foam air filter and race exhaust system which come standard, meaning no need to go aftermarket for a 'go-faster' exhaust system.
The gearbox is a true Japanese feel, positive shifting 4 speed primary kick starting type gearbox which means you can start it in any gear with the usual 1 down 3 up shift pattern. The front suspension is handled by 36mm upside down alloy forks, which have a great rigid feel, and the damping seems to be excellent right out of the box. The monoshock rear suspension has a broad range of adjustability. You can even set it to full rebound then compress the rear end and it stays there. The adjustment also includes spring rebound. Quality wise, the brakes are on a par, with wave discs front and rear and braided brake lines as standard.
As you can see, this bike packs a lot of quality components into one attractive and very compact unit, ready to not just compete, but potentially WIN races right out of the box.
Aesthetics and comfort haven't been forgotten either, with European-style levers, a tall gripper seat and oversized footpegs for better grip & control.
If you want to race Mini MotoX or Mini Motard, the Redback is definitely worth a closer look. Or if you just want to have a whole heap of fun check out (and have a listen) to a XXX Redback today. RRP is an amazing $2,149.00
