Vincent Black Shadow sells for $147K at US auction
The Black Shadow, a 1951 model (Series C), was recently sold by Gooding & Company at their Pebble Beach Auctions on August 17 & 18.
The sole motorcycle offered at this particular auction, the Vincent was described as a fully matching numbers Black Shadow, that had been restored and 'upgraded' to present as a running, usable example of the iconic motorcycle.
Listed specs included a 998cc OHV v-twin engine with twin Amal carbs, producing 55bhp @ 5,500rpm, a 4-speed gearbox and Vincent girdraulic forks.
Prior to the Pebble Beach Auctions, Gooding & Co. had given a pre-auction estimate of US$125,000 - $150,000 (AU$139,000 - AU$167,000) on the Vincent, which was being sold without reserve, so the US$132,000 (AU$147,500) price it actually achieved was pretty impressive.
However, that price pales compared to the top seller across all lot from this auction - US$9.46 million (AU$10.57M) for a 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta!
