US classics dominate Mecum Houston auction
Top seller was a 1949 Vincent-HRD Black Shadow, a very early C Series model from the Mike Doyle collection. A running and regularly-serviced bike with matching numbers, this example from the last year of HRD was the top seller amongst the motorcycles consigned, going for US$105,000 (AU$113,160 approx).
Next best was a pre-war American rarity: a 1928 Henderson K-Deluxe. Restored, running and with a number of new parts fitted, this uncommon inline 4-cylinder sold for US$62,000 (AU$66,820 approx).
Other good sellers included a 1926 Harley-Davidson JDH 8-valve board track racer (US$57,000 - AU$61,400 approx), 1941 Indian 4 (US$55,000 - AU$59,280 approx), rare 1942 Indian 841 military transverse v-twin (US$45,000 - AU$48,500 approx), 1984 Honda RS 750 flat tracker (US$39,000 - AU$42,000 approx), 1914 Indian F-Head twin (US$33,000 - AU$35,560 approx), and '39 Harley EL Knucklehead, which sold for a bargain US$30,000 (AU$32,330 approx) compared to the '47 model that recently sold locally for $65K.
