The Dark Custom range. July 08
Being a factory bike, it's not a custom in the strictest definition of the word, but the Cross Bones is nonetheless a very individual looking bike, and has been a big hit since its release at the start of 2008.
Taking the modern softail platform as its starting point, the Cross Bones gives it a whole new look with a combination of springer style front end, mini-ape hangers, sprung solo saddle, black rims, hub-laced wheels and bobbed front fender, half-moon footboards, pinstripe graphics and nostalgic badging.
H-D refer to it as a "not-so-subtle reminder of where the custom motorcycle came from".
While the styling cues are lifted from the knuckle and pan heads from Harley's past, there's nothing retro about the powertrain.
The 1584cc twin cam 96B V-Twin is in keeping with the rest of the softail family, but in the Cross Bones, the leading edges on the fins are left unfinished, picking up on the black colour acccents used throughout.
The straight shot exhaust with slash cut mufflers is part of H-D's Active Exhaust System, which uses 'active' intake and exhaust technology to deliver a deeper, more pleasing exhaust note.
Transmission is the standard 6 speed Cruise Drive.
Seat height is 30.2"/76cm unladen (26.6"/67.6cm laden) and the seat itself is adjustable.
The Softail FLSTSB Cross Bones is now available from Harley Davidson dealers throughout Australia for a suggested retail price of $29,250 incl GST.
A great looking Harley with a great deal of modern features, the Cross Bones softail shouldn't be missed!
The Dark Custom range brings together chopped custom creativity with raw finishes.
The FLSTSB Cross Bones is the latest addition to the Dark Custom brotherhood that includes the following Australian release models:
XL 1200N NIGHTSTER
The Nightster reinterprets the Sportster with retro styling, lowered suspension, solo seat, clipped fenders & chunky tyres.
FXDF DYNA FAT BOB
Taking its cues from the Fat Boy, the Fat Bob adds slotted disc wheels, twin headlights, tommy gun 2-1-2 exhaust, drag bars and polished triple clamps.
VRSCDX NIGHT ROD SPECIAL
The Night Rod Special features more blackout components than the standard Night Rod, as well as forward controls, drag bars, 240mm rear tyre & black, slotted disc wheels.
Harley-Davidson's latest addition to the 'Dark Custom' range, the FLSTSB Cross Bones harks back to the earliest days of motorcycle customisation.
