Australia's best riders as well as international guests will be going after the all important round points including: CDR Rockstar Yamaha's Jay Marmont (AUS) and Jake Moss (AUS); Carlton Dry Thor Honda's Cheyne Boyd (AUS); Honda and Hart & Huntington/Insure My Ride's Chris Blose (USA); Monster Energy Kawasaki's Billy Mackenzie (SCO); and JDR Motorex KTM's Tye Simmonds (AUS), Ryan Marmont (AUS) and Daniel Reardon (AUS).
6000 tonnes of dirt have been trucked in to the soccer field and shaped into an international standard supercross track for Australia's best and international guest riders to battle it out bar to bar.
Different race formats are set for each round, with Melbourne to feature the 'Double Header' final format, which pits riders against each other in 2 x 10 laps for the Open class and 2 x 8 laps in the Lites.
Managing Director of Global Action Sports, Michael Porra, said the weather forecast for tomorrow afternoon is clear and it will be a great day for racing.
"The precipitation from today (Friday, October 21) means the track will be perfect for racing tomorrow. The first round is always action packed with the top riders keen to make their mark on the championship so you won't want to miss it."
There will be more action on race day than ever before, with the all new Pit Bike Cup, Club Challenge, Under 19s and a Monster Energy FMX demo, which will include a special guest appearance by X Games FMX gold medalist Blake 'Bilko' Williams, in addition to the battle for supremacy in the Open, Lites and Michelin Development Series (ages 14 & 15) divisions.
Practice and qualifying races for all classes start in the afternoon. The evening's action kicks off with the official event opening at 5:30pm, followed by an FMX display, Lites and Open class heats. After that, the Pit Bikes and Club Challenge do their thing, followed by last chance qualifiers for both Lites and Open classes. After a top 8 ride off, it's the action-packed finals for Junior, Under 19, Lites and Opens.
