After securing the Australian rounds of MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship, South Australia has acquired another major two-wheel motorsport event. The FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) will make a return to Australia in 2027, with Gillman Speedway near Port Adelaide to host the championship’s double-header season finale on 29-30 October.

Richard Coleman, founder of SGP’s new promoter, Mayfield Sports Events, says he’s delighted to be bringing international speedway back to Australia for the 2027 season.
“One of the main questions we have received from the fans since we acquired the championships a year ago is when we would be going back to Australia, so it is an absolute pleasure to make that dream a reality in October, 2027,” Coleman said.
“Australia won the 2025 FIM Speedway of Nations and 2026 FIM Speedway World Cup. This truly is a special time for Australian speedway, and there could not be a better moment to bring the series back to the country where the sport was born over 100 years ago.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Gillman Speedway, the South Australian government, Motorcycling Australia and our partners at Monster Energy and the FIM for their support in making this happen. It has been a real team effort, and this is a special day for the sport down under.”

Opened in 1998, Gillman has grown to become the premier speedway venue in Australia. Hosting state, national and international speedway competition in solo and sidecar classes, Gillman will now join venues in NSW and Victoria in hosting a Speedway Grand Prix round. In 2002, Accor Stadium in Sydney was the venue for the first ever Australian SGP, with Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium holding an Australian round from 2015 to 2017. Veteran American speedway rider Greg Hancock won the first two Australian rounds, with Aussies Chris Holder and Jason Doyle victorious in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

The Australian double-header – on 29 October (Round 10) and 30 October (Round 11) – will serve as the finale for the 2027 SGP season. Ticketing information and further details will be released closer to the event.
