Scammells Auction coming in August
Scheduled for 31 August and to be held at Scammells’ main auction rooms in Norwood, South Australia, the ‘August Collector’s Auction’ will feature a selection of classic bikes and cars, supplemented with an array of vintage automobilia, petroliana and other auto-related collectable items.
As this issue of JUST BIKES went to press, the motorcycles consigned for the auction were still being identified and catalogued, but some of the early lots include a 1950s-era Ariel VH 500 in what appears to be complete and restorable condition. Also consigned is a BMW R51 from the same era. Fitted with a pillion seat and pegs, the BMW looks in better shape overall, but actual condition is unknown.
The pick of the early lots, though, is a 1960s Jawa – what appears to be a 250/559, but could be an earlier 250/353. As with the other early consignments, running status of this bike is unknown, but based on images presented, it appears to be complete and in good condition appearance-wise, and likely the subject of a past restoration.
Ducatis, Laverdas, BSAs, Hondas and other makes have also been consigned, with more coming in as this issue went to press. A more complete and accurate listing will be on the Scammells Auction website by the time you read this.
