Phillip Island MotoGP 2010 recap
Still in the Ducati squad back then, Casey Stoner set the fastest qualifying time, and then went on to record a dominant win at his home track. It took Stoner less than five kilometres to stamp his authority, with the pole-sitter scampering away to a lead of 1.503secs after the first of 27 laps of the Phillip Island circuit. The Ducati rider set the fastest lap of the race on lap seven, built his lead to over four seconds by half-distance and continued to keep the hammer down, crossing the line over eight and a half seconds clear of Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo for his fourth win in a row at home.
The final podium spot was a straight fight between Yamaha's Valentino Rossi and Ducati's Nicky Hayden, with the nine-time world champion demoting Hayden to fourth on the final lap and crossing the line just 0.038secs ahead of the American for his 13th consecutive podium in Australia.
In the Moto2 race, San Marino's Alex de Angelis was the victor, taking the lead from Briton Scott Redding at mid-race distance. Andrea Iannone finished third. Of the Aussie Moto2 riders, Ant West finished 21st, and Alex Cudlin 30th. Riding as a wildcard entry, Wayne Maxwell went down on the first lap, after being collected by Hector Faubel. Maxwell then took out his frustration on Faubel with a bit of push & shove, which earnt the Aussie a disqualification from the race and 5,000 Euro fine.
In the 125cc race, Spain's Marc Marquez led from start to finish, with Pol Espargaro and Nicolas Terol making it an all-Spanish podium. Aussie wildcards, Joshua Hook and Joel Taylor finished 18th and 20th respectively.
