Off road ace tackles Oz!
BMW Motorrad bought five times World Champion Joel Smets to Australia to campaign its brand new G 450 X Sports Enduro machine in the Australian Four Day Enduro.
Smets was part of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team in 2007 that took the 450cc prototype to several rounds of the World Enduro Championships, scoring World Championship points on debut in Puerto Lumbreras, Spain in May.
Smets, a 5-time World MX champion and 3 times MX des Nations winner, was in Australia for little more than a week to compete in the A4DE, where he finished inside the top ten on the new machine.
The G 450 X Smets rode made its Aussie competition debut in the A4DE - and did it in standard trim, except for a performance exhaust system.
Due to be launched globally later in 2008, the production version of the BMW G 450 X will feature a number of technical innovations honed in international competition over the past year.
Miles Davis, Marketing Manager, BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand, said, "The new BMW G 450 X will go on sale in Australia towards the latter part of the year, adding a new dimension to the company's off-road offerings.
"Based on feedback we have received when we showed the bike at last year's motorcycle shows, we are sure the BMW G 450 X will be popular locally".
