New tracks for older dirt bikes at 2014 Penrite Broadford Bike Bonanza
This year's event, to be held on April 19 - 20 at Broadford, will feature a double celebration, marking the history of the BP Sunraysia Desert Rally, as well as the Castrol 6-Hour production bike road races.
While the full range of circuits at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex will be in action over the Easter weekend, a new addition for 2014 is a natural-terrain scrambles track - specifically for the pre-1978 motocross crowd and the pre-1985 enduro faithful.
"Lifting the year cut-off limit to 1989 has meant we need to cater for the lower end as well as the top end of the year spectrum," said MA's Drakeford.
"We are also organising a first for the event with a 'Red Plate Trailride' out of the complex at 10pm on the Sunday. Riders will follow an arrowed course of 60ks through the Tallarook forest and return, with a 'special test' on the way."
Drakeford added that entries for the weekend are up nearly 30% on the same stage last year, so he advises all those thinking of getting involved this year to get their entry in soon so they don't miss out.
"Considering we had nearly 1,000 bikes running around across the various tracks in 2013, I think 2014 is going to exceed that figure. Surprisingly, over half of all entries are new to the event, or haven't been there for a few years. We've certainly hit the nail on the head with our double-headed feature attraction this year".
The 2014 Penrite Broadford Bike Bonanza takes place at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex, Broadford, from April 19 to 20 (Easter Saturday & Sunday).
