New Suzuki DR-Z coming in December
Ahead of its much anticipated Australian arrival later this year, Suzuki has released pricing for the new DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM. The next evolution of the enduring DR-Z400 will start at $14,490 ride away for the DR-Z4S, with its DR-Z4SM supermotard sibling priced at $14,990 ride away.

High demand for the new model that included more than 1,300 expressions of interest from Australian customers, led to a special pre-order process that was completed in August. These pre-orders will be given priority when the first batch of DR-Z models arrive in Australia this December. And of those, the earliest pre-order customers will receive their bikes first.

The new DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM have evolved to meet Euro5+ emission standards, with the 398cc DOHC four-stroke single “thoroughly updated” to be cleaner, while still providing smooth and controllable power. An advanced fuel injection system reduces fuel consumption, dual spark plugs and titanium inlet valves optimise performance, while a Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle System enhances the overall riding experience.

A new twin-spar frame has been introduced, with long-travel, adjustable KYB suspension fitted front and rear. Spoked wheels (21/18 on DR-Z4S and 17/17 on DR-Z4SM) feature tubed tyres, while disc brakes front and rear incorporate switchable ABS for both wheels – a Suzuki first.

Standard tech starts with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) that includes the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector to tailor performance to the riding environment. The Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) features a Gravel mode to maximise off-road capabilities.
Instrumentation consists of a compact LCD screen, and there’s LED lighting all round. Ergonomics include tapered aluminium handlebars and an optimally designed seat width, while the footpegs are now wider.

Styling for both models, inspired by the GSX-S1000, is virtually identical, with gold fork legs on the DR-Z4S, and black on the DR-Z4SM being one of the few differences. The DR-Z4S will be available in a choice of Champion Yellow No.2 / Solid Special White No.2 or Solid Iron Grey, while the DR-Z4SM comes in Solid Special White No.2 or Sky Grey.
New-look graphics are common to both models, along with an embossed Suzuki ‘S’ on the headlight shroud.
