New distributor coming for MV Agusta in Australia
MV Agusta will soon have a new distributor in Australia and New Zealand, with Urban Moto Imports to hand over the reins to KTM Group Australia & New Zealand after almost a decade in charge of the premium Italian marque’s local operations. The process of transition began in early June and will be completed by September.
The transition in local MV Agusta distribution for both countries is part of a broader expansion of KTM’s role in MV Agusta’s future that started with Pierer Mobility AG (KTM’s parent company) taking over MV Agusta distribution in North America in September, 2022, then purchasing a 25.1 per cent stake in MV in November. This June, Pierer Mobility AG also took over MV Agusta distribution in Japan.
According to KTM, the switch in distribution for in Tailem Bend, South Australia.MV Agusta will see a new dealer network created (presumably within existing KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas dealerships) and a new business strategy applied. Pierer Mobility AG will provide the new MV Agusta dealer network for Australia and New Zealand with support in sales, logistics, marketing and customer service, as well as spare parts supply.
“Our aim is to build a dealer network that resonates with the luxury positioning of the brand, ensuring that the excellence that has defined the products will extend to how we run the business,” said Jan Nobis, Managing Director, KTM Group Australia & New Zealand.
For Urban Moto Imports, the impending loss of MV Agusta is expected to have little impact on their bottom line, as the niche brand sells in very small numbers in both Australia and New Zealand. Urban Moto Imports have the very successful Royal Enfield brand in their portfolio, along with Benelli, Peugeot Motorcycles, Super Soco, Rieju, Torrot and Segway Powersports.
“We have enjoyed our time with MV Agusta, as it fit within our company’s mantra of uncompromised motorcycle individuality and wish the brand all the best for the future,” said Joseph Elasmar, CEO Urban Moto Imports. “We would like to thank all our customers, dealers and industry partners who have supported us and the brand along the journey.”
KTMs growing involvement in MV Agusta operations does not extend to manufacturing at this stage.
